The peppers can of course be omitted if you are serving kids, and bacon could be swapped out for finely diced seared ham. This will bring up the sweet flavor and introduce new possibilities for how to serve these tasty eggs! Serve them up at a brunch topped with the ham, some Swiss cheese, and a faux hollandaise sauce mixed into the yolks.

Making your party day schedule a bit easier is all about planning and time execution; so, if you can make as many of your appetizers ahead of time that’s always ideal! These can be made up to a day early and stored in your fridge until ready to serve.

We recommend waiting to garnish them until you are ready to serve so that the toppings are freshest.

Boiling the eggs can be done even earlier and kept in the fridge for a few days until you are ready to make the base of the loaded eggs.

We have used Medjool dates, smoked Gouda cheese and Bangkok peppers for a bit of a kick in that rich flavor. These ingredients play up the rich quality of the appetizer and round out the palette pleasing recipe that has been a party staple for generations now.

How to boil eggs for deviled eggs

Try using your Instant Pot

To make this recipe even easier, make Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs. This method also gives you a much easier time getting the shells off the eggs and delivers evenly cooked eggs every time.

Stovetop boiled eggs

The traditional stovetop method for howto boil eggs for deviled eggs is simple and straight forward, but can take some practice to get it right. The key is in the balance of boil time and the immediate ice bath that helps with shell removal.

  • Set an 8 quart pot on the stove with about three inches of water in it (just enough to completely cover the eggs)
  • Carefully set 12 eggs into the water
  • Set the burner on high heat and bring the pot to a boil
  • Reduce the temperature to simmer and cook the eggs for about 5 minutes
  • Remove and gently transfer the eggs into an ice bath using a spoon

Assembling the deviled eggs and plating

  • Cool the eggs by draining out the hot water from the pot and filling it with cold water.
  • When the eggs are cooled enough to handle Peel them carefully under running cool water.
  • Cut the eggs in half and pop the yolk into a bowl.
  • Carefully place the white half shells onto a tray.
  • Cut the bacon into 1/4 inch slices the short way.
  • Cook the bacon slices to well done then drain and crumble.
  • Add the mustard and mayonnaise to the yolks. Stir well until thoroughly mixed.
  • Put the yolk mixture into the egg white half shells by half teaspoons (use a sandwich bag with a large hole decorator tip for best presentation).
  • Arrange one sliver each of bacon, dates and peppers on yolk filling.
  • Arrange strings of Gouda cheese over the other garnishes.
  • Sprinkle with smoked paprika as desired.

    Ingredients

    • One dozen hard boiled eggs
    • 3 strips of bacon, cut into quarter inch slices the short way. cooked and crumbled
    • 1/2 Cup mayonnaise
    • 2 Tablespoons brown or dijon mustard
    • 2 bangkok peppers thinly sliced
    • 3 dates sliced into thin slivers
    • 1/2 Cup grated Smoked Gouda Cheese
    • 1/2 tsp. Smoked Paprika to garnish as desired

    Instructions

    7. When the eggs are cooled enough to handle Peel them carefully under running cool water.
    8. Cut the eggs in half and pop the yolk into a bowl.
    9. Carefully place the white half shells onto a tray.
    10. Cut the bacon into 1/4 inch slices the short way.
    11. Cook the bacon slices to well done. Drain, crumble and cool.
    12. Add the mustard and mayonnaise to the yolks. Stir well until thoroughly mixed.(you need to use an electric mixer to really get them smooth)
    13. Put the yolk mixture into the egg white half shells by half teaspoons(Use a sandwich bag with a large hole decorator tip for best presentation).
    14. Arrange one sliver each of bacon, dates and peppers on yolk filling.
    15. Arrange strings of Gouda cheese over the other garnishes
    16. Sprinkle with smoked paprika as desired

    Wow, wow, wow! I never would have thought to add dates to deviled eggs! What a great combo with the sweet and spicy and salty! Deviled eggs are one of my favorite things which I don't make often at all -- this recipe may change that! Great idea!
