Orange Chicken Sausage and Beef Meatballs. Spicy chicken sausage and ground beef combine with orange sauce to make a delightful flavor sensation in these chicken sausage and beef meatballs!
Meatballs are a rather new idea at our house. I have made a few different meatball recipes since last December. Hawaiian meatballs and spaghetti and meatballs were both great hits with the family. So I was encouraged to try meatballs again!
I wanted to try a sausage/beef combo meatball, this time, for a new flavor boost. I picked up some spicy hot chicken sausage to go with hamburger. The flavor blend was perfect for us! I love using crushed focaccia croutons instead of breadcrumbs for a filler. The extra flavor and texture they provide is pretty amazing!
We love the garlic flavored focaccia croutons. I crush them in a gallon zipped bag with my rolling pin. An easy, yummy binding ingredient. The spicy chicken sausage is also a really REALLY good idea for this recipe. The blend between hamburger and spicy chicken turns boring meatballs into a well flavored, not too spicy meatball that goes perfect with the orange sauce! …now for the naughty part.
I had a bottle of Panda express Orange sauce I bought long long ago, just sitting in the fridge. I need to use it up; and so that is the orange sauce I’m using in these meatballs. This is a serious “no no” for all of you organic cooks out there. There is nothing organic about this sauce. The only recommendation I have is that it is VERY easy and tasty!
The meatballs turned out really good with the sauce added into the meat balls, and as a condiment on the side. We really loved them. For today I’m going with easy, store bought bottled Panda Express!
Dave and I are pretty serious about organics here. Were committed to organic gardening, and we shop organic for most things. Sometimes, though the old rationalizations set in. The ” Oh, just this once” kind of thing. And that’s how I wound up with a bottle of orange sauce with the unpronounceable, who knows what they are, ingredients.
I have had that bottle of orange Panda sauce; like forever. Everytime I go to use it, I read the ingredients and put it back. Can’t do it. Well this time I DIDN’T read the label, and made a great dinner with it!
I feel so guilty about it I’m offering you another, very tasty and much healthier option. I actually made a homemade Asian Orange sauce recipe last night. I poured it over Tilapia fillets and created my Baked Tilapia with Asian Orange Sauce Recipe for dinner. Very good! But very different from the super sweet Panda Express Orange sauce.
I recommend the homemade Asian Orange sauce. I’m pretty sure it will taste Divine on these meatballs. I will be testing it soon in my own kitchen. Let me know how it goes in yours! I’ve included the recipe for it in the printable recipe, for all of you that wish to make your own sauce.
If you make these meatballs with the recipe from scratch below, this is a low carb, dairy free meal. If you use a bottled sauce, keep your eye on the nutritional content. A lot of them are really high in sugar!
