Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Roll out
1 sheet puffed pastry and lay it on the baking sheet
(you will need a second puff pastry for the top)
Cut out a Christmas tree shape to fill the baking sheet length and width
*see blog post for tutorial*
To make the star topper
Use a star shaped cookie cutter to make the tree topper out of scrap dough
Complete the star with a filling of Nutella and two layers of pastry
set aside
You will need roughly 2 Cups of Nutella
Spread Nutella onto the first pastry cut into the tree shape
Roll out the second puffed pastry sheet and lay it over the Nutella spread first pastry
Press the star shaped tree topper onto the pastry tree top
Press the second pastry firmly onto the Nutella to create an outline
Cut around that outline to make the finished filled tree shape
Cut through the pastry sides to make the branches
Twist each branch of the tree in the same direction to create evenly spaced tree branches
Brush with 1 egg and 1 Tbs water in a cup to give shine and help decorations stick
Decorate with candies, sprinkles, sanding sugar etc..if you are using candies like m&m's wait until after baking to add them
Bake 15 minutes, cool, finish decorating as desired
