Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F
In a large mixing bowl sift together
1 1/2 Cup all purpose flour
1 Cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 Tbs cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
To that mixture add
5 Tbs melted butter
1 large egg
1 Cup buttermilk
Mix until the batter is just combined and smooth
Allow to rest for 15 minutes
Pour the batter into a round 8" cake pan
Spray lightly with cooking spray to prevent it from sticking
Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean
Allow the cake to cool completely before removing it from the pan
You can decorate and garnish this cake however you like
Drizzle with a chocolate ganache or your favorite frosting
