In a medium sauce pan melt
1/2 Cup butter
Italian seasonings
Chopped fresh basil to taste
2 garlic cloves minced or 2 tsp. garlic powder
Whisk it until well blended
Add 1/4 Cup all purpose flour and whisk it on medium high until the flour-butter mixture bubbles gently and thickens
While whisking it continuously, add
3 Cups of whole milk 1 cup at a time and cook until it thickens
Add
1 Cup of fresh shredded Parmesan cheese
It will continue to thicken so keep adding milk in small amounts until it develops the sauce consistency you want, whisking constantly
