No, dried beans do not have to be soaked prior to cooking them in the Instant Pot. You can soak them if you want, and it will cut down on the cooking time a bit, but it is not at all necessary. Un-soaked beans can be rinsed and placed in the Instant Pot with water or your choice of broth, just make sure they are fully submerged in order to cook properly.

You REALLY should use the cooking liquid. It is now a bean broth full of rich flavor and nutrients. You want this in your recipe if possible.

You can also save it (freeze it if you like) and use the bean broth for soups, sauces and stews. It's very good.
