How do you melt Velveeta cheese for queso?

The best way to melt Velveeta cheese is to shred it or cut it into small cubes and heat it slowly. This can be done on the stovetop, in a slow cooker with a bit of butter just be sure the heat is low and make sure to stir it occasionally. Once the cheese has melted you can add the remaining ingredients and finish mixing everything together.

How do you keep Velveeta Queso creamy?

Be sure to maintain a constant low heat to ensure your queso stays creamy and smooth. Velveeta will harden when it cools, so it is important to keep the dip warm. Also, make sure your have an adequate amount of liquids in the queso which will help it remain in liquid form.

What can I add to Velveeta Queso to make it thinner?

Velveeta Queso can be made thinner by adding more milk. The ration of milk to Velveeta cheese will determine the overall consistency of the queso.

Cooking Methods

Slow Cooker:

Brown the hamburger and drain it.

Toss everything including the cooked hamburger, into a crockpot. Melt it into a sea of gooey cheese, chilies and hamburger. Let it sit until serving.

Easy peasy. You really can’t go wrong with it.

Instant Pot:

Watch our demonstration video to see exactly how we make this Velveeta Queso recipe in an Instant Pot. It’s much like the slow cooker method.

Stovetop:

If you want to make this Velveeta recipe on the stovetop that works too. Just use a large skillet, brown the meat and drain it. Return the meat and other ingredients to your skillet and melt it all together on low heat.

Serve immediately, or rewarm on low at serving. We don’t recommend you let this dip sit in a skillet for hours without watching and the occasional stir as it may scorch.

At serving, scoop out that warm gooey dip into a bowl. Add chips and serve. We used round tortilla chips. They are a good shape for scooping all the goodies out with the cheesy thick sauce.

Aside from the excellent flavor of this Velveeta cheese dip, the hamburger and veggies offer protein and nutrients. Just add you favorite chips.
