Simple Lemon Cake Martini Recipe

The Lemon Cake Martini has warm rich flavors that ring the rum cake bell. Add the limoncello for a bright lemon Glaze on top. You could call this the lemon pound cake martini. You’ll know its not cake, but you may like this drink even better. Who needs dessert?

The lemon Cake martini is a yummy after dinner drink, dessert cocktail or fun drink for a special occasion.

Rumchata and limoncello are so delicious in this mixed drink. This drink blends together the warm cozy flavors of rum, vanilla and cinnamon and adds lemony sweet tanginess. The combination is divine.

Don’t get confused. This drink is NOT a Lemon Drop Martini. The lemon drop does not use rum or cream. It is a vodka martini. We have the lemon drop martini recipe for you here if you need it. And lemon drop shots recipe is here.

Alcohol Content Of The Lemon Cake Martini:

This is a fairly low alcohol drink. The blend of rumchata (27.5 proof) and limoncello (60 proof) comes in mild. The combined blend in this recipe is only about 16 percent blood alcohol or 32 proof.

It’s a light cocktail perfect for a girls night out, wedding shower or special event. Since it only requires two ingredients it is a snap to mix up in batches. And it’s about as potent as a glass of wine.

But remember, if you change the ingredients or the balance of these ingredients, you also change the alcohol ABV.

What is Rumchata?

Pouring Rumchata
Pouring Rumchata

Rumchata is a cream liqueur with a carribean rum base. Vanilla and cinnamon add depth and warmth to this delicious rum liqueur.

What does RumChata Limón Taste Like? It’s the same wonderfully rich creamy rum and vanilla flavor we love in the original rumchata with a hint of lemon added for a brighter taste.

What is Limoncello ?

We used  Caravella Limoncello in this recipe. It is a delicious sweet tart Italian lemon liqueur made from a combination of grain alcohol, lemon juice, lemon peels and sugar. We enjoy it and use our limoncello in lots of drinks.

You can use any lemon liqueur you enjoy or your favorite homemade lemon liqueur recipe as you wish.

Lemon Cake Martini Variations and Substitutions:

This lemon cream liqueur cocktail can take a bit of changing up if you don’t mind losing the rumchata lemon cake flavor we came up with in our drink recipe.

Substitutes for Rumchata:

The rum cake flavor is excellent with rumchata. But You can still make a tasty cocktail with these substitutions.

Rumchata has a warm rich creamy flavor that works well to bring out the rum cake flavor of this drink. However, You can use any other cream liqueur that stays it the rich warm lane and still achieve a pleasing drink. But, if it is not a rum based cream liqueur you will lose that deep rich rum in the cake flavor. (after all rum is great in cake recipes.)

To change up the recipe with other flavors try adding amaretto or coconut rum. Other cream liqueur flavors that work well as a substitute for Rumchata in this cocktail include the Bailey’s Vanilla Cinnamon Irish cream (whiskey based), and Somrus which is a nutty-flavored liqueur with chia.

Pouring A Lemon Cake Martini

Substitutes for Limoncello:

Out of Limoncello? Try using a lemon flavored rum or Deep Eddys lemon vodka. They will taste different from limoncello but still provide the basic flavor profile we are going for here.

The adding more rum will give you a deeper richer flavor (maybe too much when also using rumchata?) and the lemon vodka I’m suggesting is a bit less sweet than limoncello. Be ready to adjust the recipe to taste when substitutions are involved.

Presentation for this Cocktail:

We went with a formal presentation. We shook and strained the drink into a sugar rimmed long stemmed martini glass. Lots of long stemmed martini Glasses to Browse on Amazon Here.

We suggest Chilling the glass in advance about 30 minutes to help keep this drink cold without ice. That way you can sip this lightly alcoholic rich creamy lemony drink and not get a nasty dilution from melted ice.

How To Rim The Glass:

We rimmed the martini glass with a lemon zested sugar rim. this really bring out the sweet lemon flavor of the drink and is another way to dress up this drink for fancy occasions.

We used a lemon wedge to garnish the glass. You can choose any garnish you prefer.

For a less formal look to your drink choose a different glass. stemless martini glasses, mason jars or high ball glasses will all work for this drink. And the sugar rim is optional. although is does add it’s own extra sweet zip to the drink.

For Lemon Cake shots

How To make lemon rumchata shots:

If using vodka, double the amount of sugar. For a nonalcoholic version, try adding a cup of lemonade instead of water. To make lemon simple syrup, combine 1/2 cup of sugar with 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until sugar dissolves. Cool before serving.
